What is "Locker Hooking"?
Locker Hooking is a fun, simple, and fast craft which uses rug canvas, a special hook, wool, wool roving (unspun wool), yarn and even rags to make coasters, chair pads, clothing, bags, saddle blankets and rugs.
The locker hook looks like a crochet hook with a large eye on the other end. The eye end of the hook is threaded with yarn or string, which locks the loops in place.
How much roving, yarn or fabric will I need for locker hooking?
To hook a square foot, you will need about 4 oz. of roving. If you use yarn instead, you would need about 70 yards of a chunky yarn. If you use fabric strips, you'll need about 1.5 yards of 36" fabric torn into one inch strips, which you fold in half lengthwise. You will also need about 35 yards of the locker twine or yarn.
To read more about the technique and see photos of the process, see my page, Locker Hooking a Rug with Roving
Marla J. made the beautiful rug on the left, and writes; "I just wanted to send you a picture of the finished wool rug that I made with your roving. I was really pleased with the colors and it is so soft and beautiful. The wool is such a joy to work with and it is so much prettier than using fabric strips, I guess because the wool reflects the light and seems to glow."
